Varga appointed Hungary's EU budget chief negotiator

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has appointed National Economy Minister Mihály Varga to be Hungary's chief negotiator in charge of preparations for the European Union's 2014-2020 budget, a government resolution published in the fresh issue of official gazette Magyar Közlöny shows. The chief negotiator will prepare documents on budget planning and ensure that Hungary is uniformly represented in EU budget planning as well as maintaining coordination between the ministries involved. The appointment of Varga does not affect the position of state secretary Zoltán Cséfalvay as head of the talks on the use of development funding available in the period, the economy ministry said in a statement on Wednesday. The ministry said Cséfalvay remains responsible for coordinating the preparations of Hungarian development programs for the new seven-year budget period and for carrying out the negotiations on priorities and structure of the use of EU funding with the European Commission.
