TV soap producer for Hungary ambassador post

History

On Monday, the Washington Post newspaper reported that television producer/large-scale Obama campaign contributor Colleen Bell is in pole position to become the US’ next ambassador to Hungary, with only approval by Hungarian authorities needed to make the nomination official.

Bell is most known in the public sphere as a producer of the daytime soap opera “The Bold and the Beautiful,” but got President Barack Obama’s attention as a campaign contributor. As a “bundler,” Bell ultimately raised over $2.1 million for Obama’s reelection bid, earning her a spot on the top contributors’ list.

In the Obama Administration, Bell has served in a few official capacities, including with the Natural Resources Defense Council and the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts; she has served as committee chair on the latter since April 2011.

The term of service for the former US ambassador to Hungary, Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis, ended in July.
