Trump apparently started the telephone conversation by thanking Orbán for the support of Hungarian Americans, adding that they had supported him “in big numbers” and had played a significant role in his victory, the announcement from the ministry says.

“I’m a big fan of Hungary,” Trump was quoted as saying, adding that he respects the performance of the Hungarian prime minister and of the economy. Szijjártó added that Trump said “interesting times” are coming in the world, and he is looking forward to working jointly with the Hungarian prime minister and Hungary.

Szijjártó confirmed that Trump has invited Orbán to Washington; negotiations will start after the inauguration of the new president in January. “It is good news for Hungary that eventually Donald Trump has gained the trust of American citizens,” Szijjártó said.
