TEK’s ‘terrorists’ turn out to be WWII memorabilia collectors
People labeled “terrorists” and arrested this weekend by Hungaryʼs secret service and counter-terrorism unit (TEK) turned out to be collectors of World War II memorabilia, and they were released shortly after their arrest, according news reports yesterday.

TEK had reported that they apprehended a couple and a group of four in two separate raids this weekend, and that they discovered machine guns and bombs, even a “bomb laboratory”.
One of those arrested was said to have international ties, TEK director János Hajdu told state-owned all-news channel M1 on Tuesday evening. At the time, Hajdu declined to say whether he thought the arrested parties were jihadists.
Yesterday, Hajdu reportedly told Parliamentʼs National Security cabinet in a closed meeting that a serious crime had been prevented by TEK.
The Buda Central District Court has already released four of the arrested who are believed to have been young men collecting World War II weapons as their hobby, online news portal index.hu and Népszabadság reported yesterday.
