Szijjártó proposes conference on migration in Budapest
Hungary’s foreign minister Peter Szijjártó proposed in Luxembourg yesterday that leaders of the European Union, the Western Balkans, the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean should meet in Budapest early in the fall to discuss how to ease the pressure of migration, Hungarian news agency MTI reported this morning.
Szijjártó also told reporters that while the EU focuses on immigration from the Mediterranean it did not pay “any attention” to the situation in Hungary, where Szijjártó said, the largest number of refugees have been targeting.
Szijjártó demanded that the EU give due focus to the routes taken by refugees through the Balkans to Hungary, which he said were now being used by people from Africa and the Middle East.
The Foreign Minister also urged that the vessels of human smugglers on the Mediterranean should be destroyed, and voiced support for proposals to resolve migration issues outside Europe, Hungary Matters, the newsletter of state-owned Media Service Support and Asset Management Fund (MTVA) reported.
