Századvég ‘access scandal’ brought before parliamentary committee
A parliamentary committee will investigate complaints that government-friendly political think tank, Századvég, was given access to classified documents, Zsolt Molnár, the Socialist head of Parliament’s Committee on National Security said yesterday, according to Hungarian online daily hvg.hu.
According to the Socialist politician, the committee would ask questions about Századvég staff’s access to certain classified documents in the past five years. The committee is expected to hold its next meeting in two weeks, hvg.hu said.
Gábor Fodor, the leader of the Hungarian Liberal Party, called a meeting of the national security committee with immediate effect, to look into the Századvég matter, the party told Hungarian news agency MTI on Saturday.
Fodor had earlier sent a written question to Interior Minister Sándor Pintér regarding Századvég’s access to sensitive documents, the party said, adding that Pintér’s response revealed that the think tank had apparently been allowed to work on classified documents even though they do not have security clearance.
