Semjén: Law on possession of firearms should be amended

Analysis

Christian Democrat (KDNP) politician, and Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén is looking to pass a bill that would allow the possession of firearms under certain conditions beyond the purpose of sport, hunting, self-defense and in the line of duty, Hungarian news agency MTI reported yesterday.

Semjén is reportedly proposing an amendment to the law that would save antique and highly valuable firearms, from being destroyed in the process of disarmament required to make them compliant under the current law.

Semjén would like to ensure that these weapons are subject to special regulations, and that the preservation of these rare treasures, which cannot be registered for such purpose as hunting, is of national interest particular for those who come to view the private collections from abroad.
