Goodfriend: We know of people cheating in NAV

History

“We know of people cheating inside Hungary’s Tax and Customs Authority (NAV)”, and yet there was no police investigation, U.S. chargé d'afffaires André Goodfriend reportedly told Hungarian weekly Heti Válasz.

According to the right-wing newsweekly, which says it will publish the full interview tomorrow, Goodfriend said the embassy possess evidence that the Hungarian government also received. When asked whether the two-page document on the subject that Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán called a “scrap of paper” counts as evidence, Goodfriend reportedly said that was just memo to remind the Hungarian government of what had transpired.

Goodfriend added that the Hungarian government had failed to react on various occasions when the U.S. Embassy was trying to get into touch with them.
