Stricter punishment for student assaults

Punishment for sexual assault committed at a school or university would be strengthened, under a proposal by, Human Resources Minister Zoltán Balog proposed, official website of the Hungarian government kormany.hu reported yesterday.
Speaking on the sidelines of a Higher Education Roundtable, Balog said that such crimes should be punishable by 2-8 years in prison rather than by 1-5 years in the basic case of assault.
The stricter punishment regime should also apply to such assaults taking place during functions organised by institutions beyond the campus, too, he said.
Referring to incidents at university camps that have recently come to light, Balog said a question mark hung over whether such crimes had been appropriately handled.
