Pintér lauds authorities’ response to March blizzard

Weather

Interior Minister Sándor Pintér praised the authorities’ reaction over intense snowing and wind gusts over the weekend that left thousands of vehicles stranded, damaged property and infrastructure and has cut off electricity for thousands. Pintér stressed that response workers had to cope with extreme conditions which they did in commendable fashion.
The government and Pintér’s ministry received strong criticism from the political opposition not to mention the flow of information from non-governmental organization and those affected through social media who complained that there wasn’t sufficient information about the foreseeable weather and that the reaction time and approach of the authorities was uncoordinated and in general poor. Pintér also was targeted with critical remarks after he blamed motorists caught in the snow for embarking without making preparations or gathering information about the weather outlooks.
