Parliament modifies Erzsébet meal-voucher scheme
Parliament yesterday approved legislation submitted by the Human Resources Ministry to end the exclusive connection between the Hungarian National Foundation for Recreation and the Erzsébet meal and recreation voucher scheme, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.
The public tasks of organizing child and teen recreational programs will be handled by a newly established child welfare foundation which will receive budget funding related to its tasks under the Erzsébet program.
The Hungarian National Foundation for Recreation will still be in charge of organizing meals and recreation vouchers as a form of social support and distributing such vouchers. It will continue to use the proceeds of the Erzsébet meal-vouchers and other revenue it acquires to execute its programs.
Erzsébet meal-vouchers are an element of Hungaryʼs unified national voucher system, introduced in 2012. The state offers tax benefits for the vouchers.
The government proposed amendment put forward by the European Court of Justice earlier in March that would prevent Hungaryʼs unified voucher system from violating key European Union tenets.
The bill was approved with 118 voting for, 53 voting against and four abstentions.
