Prime Minister Viktor Orbán confirmed that the government has taken the earlier planned extension of the telecommunications tax to internet service providers off the agenda, MTI news agency reported yesterday.

Asked whether a tax on internet usage could be introduced next year, Orbán said: "I think not." He said it was only a "legal technicality" on which day the related motion would be submitted to Parliament. Orbán said all of the affected ISPs had protested the extension of the tax with the government. Antal Rogán, parliamentary group leader of governing party Fidesz, said yesterday that Parliament's economy committee would submit a motion to withdraw the proposed extension of the telco tax at a meeting today.
