Nearly 200 file for personal bankruptcy

History

To date, 199 filings for personal bankruptcy have been registered, Justice Minister László Trócsányi said in a written response to a query by an opposition MP, Hungarian news agency MTI reported this morning.

The number of parties seriously interested in filing for personal bankruptcy is around 2,000, Trócsányi said in a letter to Socialist MP Ildikó Borbély Bangó posted on the Parliamentʼs website.

“Public awareness of personal bankruptcy is on the rise, and more people are expected to gradually initiate the procedure,” he wrote.

Personal bankruptcy rules came into force from September 1, 2015 for Hungarians whose homes could be repossessed. The rules will become universal from October 1, 2016.
