Left-wing parties set to renegotiate election pact
The left-wing opposition parties are preparing to reopen talks on their cooperation pact for the 2014 elections, various media outlets reported yesterday. The decision comes after Együtt 2014-PM (E14-PM) party president Gordon Bajnai raised the idea that the deal signed between his organization and the socialist MSzP in 2013 should be revised and expanded to cover a broader range of opposition organizations.
Bajnai made particular note of including the Democratic Coalition (DK) party led by former prime minister Ferenc Gyurcsány.
Last year, Bajnai and MSzP chairman Attila Mesterházy said the deal was final, even as Gyurcsány vehemently urged broadening the base for the unified left-wing drive to maximize the number of votes cast for the removal of Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz government.
