Infringement proceedings likely against Hungary

The European Commission is likely to start infringement proceedings against Hungary over the recent constitutional changes. “The commission is working on a thorough legal analysis which will lead probably to infringement procedures. And this will happen rather quickly,” European Union Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding said at a daily briefing in Brussels on Wednesday. The amendments were passed in March by the Hungarian parliament, where Orbán's ruling party alliance enjoys a two-thirds majority.
