Hungarian gov’t attacks ‘migrants’ in new campaign

History

The Hungarian government is launching another “information campaign” prior to the referendum on the EU’s refugee relocation quotas, in which the government makes a connection between what it terms the “migration crisis” and the growth of terrorism on the continent.

From the middle of the week the government will send messages to Hungarian citizens on television, radio, online and in print, as well as on billboards, with what they claim is the intention to inform the public ahead of the referendum scheduled for October 2.

Citing the official website of the Hungarian government, online daily hvg.hu reports that the messages appearing on the billboards will be as follows: “Did you know that since the beginning of the migrant crisis, more than 300 people have died in Europe in terror attacks?” as well as “Did you know that since the beginning of the migrant crisis, harassment towards women has steeply risen in Europe?” and “Did you know that the Paris attack was carried out by immigrants?”

State Secretary Bence Tuzson said the campaign is intended to inform the public about the possible consequences of immigration and acceptance of the EU’s quota system.
