Hungarian government eyes establishing two cabinets
The Hungarian government is planning to divide in to two distinct cabinets – one responsible for the country’s economy and the other responsible for making strategic decisions, Hungary’s Cabinet Chief János Lázár announced yesterday.
During his regular weekly press conference, Lázár, who is currently the minister in charge of the Prime Minister’s Office, said that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán decided to set up two separate cabinets to leave more time for government officials to prepare and discuss important decisions. Lázár said the reorganization will boost the efficiency of the Hungarian government.
Under the plan described, each of the two cabinets will be headed by a minister. Although the ministers have not been named yet, observers have speculated that Hungary’s National Economy Minister Mihály Varga could be in charge of the cabinet responsible for the economy, while the other body could be headed by Lázár himself.
Lázár also said that three new government commissioners will be appointed under the restructuring decisions made this week. The three new commissioners will be responsible for postal and financial services, for the restructuring of the Hungarian State Treasury and for transport infrastructure developments, according to Lázár.
