Hungary’s government, which has often been critical of Brussels and has been accused of euro-skepticism, is taking out advertisements in the British press urging voters to opt for staying in the European Union, according to reports.

The full-page advertisement in the Daily Mail, one of the U.K.’s largest selling daily newspapers, reads: “The decision is yours, but I would like you to know that Hungary is proud to stand with you as a member of the European Union,” according to a report by Hungarian news agency MTI today. The advertisement features Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s signature, with the Hungarian flag in the background of the advert, according to reports.

“Although we have earned accusations of being anti-EU from many sides on numerous occasions, this is a testament to the fact that Hungary is committed to the European Union,” government spokesman Zoltán Kovács told Reuters yesterday. He told MTI that a strong Europe required cooperation between its largest members, therefore Britainʼs membership was crucial.

If British people decide to leave the European Union on a voting on Thursday, June 23, analysts expect the Hungarian economy growth to be hurt. Projections say that EU funding agreements could be renegotiated, which could end up in Hungary receiving less.

Furthermore, Kovács said, approximately 250,000 to 300,000 Hungarians who work in the U.K could face employment problems if the country decides to leave the union.
