The accumulated debt of Hungarian hospitals reached HUF 83 bln in March, napi.hu reported yesterday. According to data published by the State Treasury, the total debt of hospitals increased by a remarkable HUF 7 bln.

“Settlement of supplier invoices has been suspended for months, and no supplier is being paid,” Association of Medical Devices Manufacturers chief secretary László Rásky told napi.hu. Cabinet chief János Lázár said two weeks ago that HUF 60 bln was made available for the consolidation of state healthcare.

At the current pace of rising debts, however, the hospitals’ accumulated debt could reach HUF 90 bln within a few months and the unconsolidated gap could be as high as HUF 70 bln by the end of the year, napi.hu added.
