Greenpeace: Harvest initiated by Fidesz-friendly company is illegal
Fidesz-friendly Mező Vidék Bt. reportedly contracted harvesters to harvest land in the Kishantos area for which it had illegally acquired rental rights, hvg.hu reported yesterday.
Greenpeace informed hvg.hu that the land rental contract the company signed with the Nemzeti Földalapkezelő (National Land Fund Management organization) was annulled by an appeals court on June 17.
According to court documents, Mező Vidék Bt. did not even qualify as a bidder for the land rental tender, since they have no track record in agricultural activity and do not own machinery required for the activity.
Mező Vidék reportedly took over the cultivation of the land from Kishantosi Vidékfejlesztési Központ (KVK) in April 2015 with the support of armed guards, in spite of a judgment delivered by a court of a first instance providing the KVK with land protection.
