Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă said on Wednesday that the country invested a record-high RON 73 billion (EUR 15 billion) in 2022, slightly off its target due to the economic turmoil, according to a report by SeeNews.
The government had planned to invest RON 88 billion last year.
These figures confirm a very positive trend - namely that investments are starting to make a major contribution to the budget, Ciucă said in a live-streamed statement. FDI into Romania reached EUR 9.4 billion in January-October, up from EUR 7.8 billion in the same period of 2021, latest data from the central bank indicated.
According to Ciucă in 2022, Romania reached 73% EU funds absorption rate for the 2014-2021 period, up by an annual 20%.
