Romania's Finance Ministry said that the country will receive a non-refundable financial contribution of CHF 221.5 million (EUR 227 mln) as part of a larger investment approved by the Swiss government in order to reduce economic and social disparities within the European Union, reported news portal SeeNews.

The Romanian government approved a memorandum for the framework agreement with the Swiss Federal Council regarding the second Swiss contribution to selected EU countries on October 12, the ministry said in a press release.

The investment was preceded by an initial contribution of CHF 181 mln, concluded in 2010, according to the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).

The second Swiss contribution will be covering programmes including but not limited to education, research, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), health, social inclusion, and energy efficiency.
