Nascent Czech coalition gov't not planning to adopt euro

World

The likely next Czech government does not plan to replace the Czech crown with the euro, the Czech News Agency (ČTK) reported cited by the Czech Radio.

Together, comprising the Civic Democrats, the Christian Democrats and TOP09, and another electoral coalition, the Pirates and Mayors, are currently setting up a coalition government with a comfortable majority in the lower house.

Representatives of Together say the country does not fulfill the conditions for adopting the common European currency and that the time is not yet right for such a move.

The Czech Republic committed to introducing the euro when it joined the EU in 2004 but there is no deadline for this.
