Simicska makes headlines around Europe

Following reports that Hungarian media oligarch Lajos Simicska had declared a “media war” on the government in response to an advertising tax that would target pro-government media, a number of key media outlets around Europe began covering the story, from the Associated Press to Reuters, Le Monde and Germany’s Süddeutsche Zeitung, according to news portal 444.hu.

The German daily reported that prior to the relationship between Simicska and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán going sour, company’s associated with the media mogul had received 40% of monies distributed through public procurements. Le Monde reported that Simicska, who was a staunch supporter of Orbán and his cause, had given more interviews to left-wing media in four hours than he had in four years announcing his plans to retaliate against ruling Fidesz party.
