Report: Orbán speech will outdo ‘illiberal democracy’ shocker
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will return to the open university of Bálványos in Romania – where he made last year’s notorious speech promoting “illiberal democracy” – and deliver another shocker on Saturday, sources said to be close to Orbán reportedly told index.hu.
Citing a source who reportedly works with Árpád Habony, who has been described by media as a close associate and unofficial advisor to Orbán, Index said yesterday that the prime minister will share “his deepest thoughts”. The source reportedly predicted that the prime minister will talk about issues that he has never yet talked about before, even in private meetings.
According to index.hu’s source, Orbán is constantly in connection with think tanks and private individuals who give the prime minister suggestions for his political theories, but the prime minister himself decides what to talk about in front of the public.
A year ago, speaking at the annual event, which is something akin to a summer camp and think tank for the Fidesz party, Orbán drew criticism from around the globe for a speech in which he decried liberal democracy, held up Turkey, China, Russia and Singapore as good examples of governance, and said that Hungary is a workfare state, run on nationalist and Christian values.
