Hungary needs work-centered labor code, says PM
Hungary needs a work-centered labor code that protects workplaces, supports job creation, offers a defense to employees and contributes to the appreciation of work, to the esteem of physical labor, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said after a meeting with representatives of businesses and unions.
Hungary's new labor code is necessary because the current one does not help the country keep the employment rate at an acceptable level or maintain respect for work, Orbán said.
Orbán said he accepted employers' and unions' stand on allowing nobody's income to fall because of the restructuring of the tax system. The government will finalize a possible solution for this on September 28, he added.
István Gaskó, head of unions association Liga, called the talks "fruitful" and "valuable".
Sándor Demján, head of business association VOSZ, said employers supported strong unions and were interested in a reconciliation of interests and regular dialogue.
