László said 26,000 kilometers of Hungary’s roads do not meet EU standards, noting that a large proportion of the country’s public roads, which have a lifespan of just 16 years, was built in the 1970s. Available funds will be sufficient to cover improvement of 200-300 kilometers of roads in 2008, László said. Közút manages all public roads in Hungary, with the exception of the 1,000km in motorways and main roads. (MTI-Econews)
