Hungary, U.S. sign implementing agreements for use of air bases

Hungary and the United States signed implementing agreements designating air bases in Kecskemét and Pápa as agreed facilities and areas on Friday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The agreements were signed by ministerial commissioner Tibor Babos and U.S. Army Major General Charles Miller.

Babos noted Hungary and the U.S. had signed a Defense Cooperation Agreement in Washington two years earlier. That agreement provides the right framework for further strengthening cooperation and implementing military developments in Kecskemét, Pápa, Várpalota, and Tata, he added.

The ministerial commissioner said infrastructure and technology developments were expected to be made at the air bases in Kecskemét and Pápa, while investments serving land troops would be made in Várpalota and Tata.

"This signing brings with it new opportunities for even greater collaboration and coordination with our Hungarian Allies," Maj Gen Miller said in a statement issued by the U.S. European Command.
