Hungary Signs Framework Deal on 2nd Swiss Contribution

An agreement on a new Swiss-Hungarian Cooperation Program, part of the second Swiss contribution for strengthening cohesion in Europe, was signed in Budapest on Tuesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Andrea Studer, the deputy head of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, said the agreement involves CHF 87.6 million in funding for developments in healthcare, vocational training, R&D, SME financing, energy efficiency, and water management, as well as for preventing human trafficking and reducing the gap for people in disadvantaged social groups and minorities.

Deputy state secretary Gergely Vartus said HUF 3.9 billion of the funding would be earmarked for vocational training, HUF 4.5 bln for R&D, HUF 5.2 bln for SME financing, HUF 1 bln for anti-trafficking measures, HUF 5.2 bln for energy efficiency, HUF 7 bln for water management, and HUF 10 bln-11 bln for the areas of health, social welfare and minorities and disadvantaged groups.

Tenders for the funding will be called in six months, he added.
