Szijjártó: Putin’s visit is ‘crucial’ in terms of energy

Int’l Relations

Hungary’s foreign minister Péter Szijjártó says Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Hungary today will be “crucial” in terms of “maintaining secure energy supplies” to the country, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

According to Szijjártó, Russia maintains a key role in ensuring energy supply for Central Europe, therefore it is “inconceivable” for the ministry not to “consult with it regularly”. He added that Russia is Hungary’s third biggest trading partner, and noted that the recent decline in bilateral trade between the two countries has had a serious impact on Hungary’s economic output.
