The "Hungarian model" is fit to meet both migration-related and economic challenges, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said at a forum organized by AmCham today, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

Hungary has refuted the economic dogma that growth and fiscal discipline cannot go hand-in-hand, he said. Hungary has also proven that the migration crisis can only be resolved if all common European rules are observed and control over protecting the borders is regained, he added.

Concerning the economic challenges facing Hungary, Szijjártó said Hungaryʼs partnerships with U.S. firms were very important. There are 1,750 U.S. companies in Hungary providing jobs to more than 90,000 Hungarians and more than $9 bln has been invested in Hungary by U.S. firms so far, he said.

On the subject of the TTIP trade agreement, he said the agreement to be forged between the EU and the United States could bring benefits for Hungary, as well, depending, however, on how well the European Commission can represent its position.
