Romania, Turkey to promote regional economic projects: Romanian PM
Romania and Turkey can decisively contribute to the promotion of economic and development projects in the region, Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu- Tariceanu told his visiting Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday.
„Our special relations materialize in the projects we successfully cooperate in, and the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation is a good example in this sense,” said Tariceanu. „We are highly satisfied with the economic relations between our countries. This year economic exchanges will top $6 billion and we decided to encourage mutual investments in various areas, as well as the expansion of joint projects in the region of Caucasus, Central Asia or the Mideast,” Tariceanu said at the press conference after his meeting with Erdogan.
„We discussed in detail the important energy project Nabucco and the possibility to set in place the undersea electric cable linking Romania's Constanta and Turkey's Istanbul. Energy security is an extremely important subject on the agenda of the European Union and we are convinced that. Turkey has a major role to play in ensuring a diversification of energy supply sources and routes to the European Union,” said Tariceanu.
In his turn, the Turkish prime minister said that energy is an important area where the two countries can make future progress. „ In Europe, one of the most advanced relevant concepts of the moment is the Nabucco project. I want to point out that this project is particularly important for our countries,” said Erdogan. The Turkish prime minister added that he wants Romania-Turkey cooperation relations to contribute to global peace and thanked Romania for its support in the combat of terrorism.
The two sides signed on Thursday the a cooperation agreement on the prevention, mitigation and removal of disaster effects and the protocol for the amendment of the agreement between the two governments on their citizens' mutual travels. (people.com.cn)
