Palkovics meets US ambassador to discuss energy, economic development
Innovation and Technology Minister Lászlo Palkovics met with David Cornstein, the United Statesʼ Ambassador to Hungary, to discuss cooperation in energy, economic development and innovation, the Ministry for Innovation and Technology said today (Thursday).
U.S. Ambassador to Hungary David B. Cornstein
Palkovics highlighted that guaranteeing the security of Hungaryʼs energy supply is a priority of the countryʼs energy policy, with diversifying gas supply an important part of this policy. Currently, about 95% of Hungaryʼs gas imports are delivered from Russia through Ukraine, thus the goal is to ensure supply from other countries, for example from liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals in the north or the south of Europe.
Cornstein agreed that achieving energy independence is an important goal and said Hungary could count on the support of the United States in this effort.
Palkovics noted that the United States is the biggest investor outside of Europe in Hungary, while Hungarian companies are active in IT, the life sciences and biotechnology in America.
Cornstein mentioned that doing business in Hungary is worthwhile, noting the importance of strengthening economic, scientific and technological ties between the States and Hungary.
The sides agreed to continue talks to discuss the main elements of an economic development strategy in the works.
