Int’l Relations

Hungary may lure as much as €5 billion in foreign direct investment next year, easing concern about the size of the government's budget, Economy Minister János Kóka said in an interview yesterday. Foreign investment into Hungary's $106 billion economy, the third-largest among the new European Union members, may swell from €4 billion estimated this year, Kóka said.
The economy may grow as much as 5% in 2006, from between 4.2% and 4.5% this year, he said. GDP rose an annual 4.5% in the third quarter. "There are huge projects" in the pipeline, Kóka said at the Hungarian Embassy in London, declining to give details.
