Belgrade is hoping to receive EU member state statute before the end of the year, a senior Serbian official said.

The condition that has to be met is the full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal. The news was announced by the Serbia Vice MP Bojidar Djelic. Yesterday Djelic met President of EU Parliament Hans-Gert Poettering and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn.

Djelic also said that if the country was lead by a pro-European government Serbia could enjoy EU membership in 2012. (focus-fen)

We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
