KSH: Hungary’s farm gate prices down 8.2% in March
Farm gate prices in Hungary fell 8.2% year-on-year in March, data from the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reveal today, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.
Prices of crops fell 9.1%, while prices of livestock and animal products were down 6.6%. Hog prices were down 9.0% and poultry prices fell 2.5%. Egg prices rose 6.1% and milk prices fell 19%.
Grain prices decreased by 12.2% lower in March. Prices of industrial crops fell 2.6% and prices of oil seeds were down 3.9%. Potato prices dropped 33.1%. Prices of fresh vegetables increased by 7.0% and fruit prices fell 17.5%.
In the first quarter of this year, farm gate prices decreased 7.9% as prices of crops also fell 8.4% and prices of live animals and animal products dipped 7.3%.
Hungarian farmersʼ terms of trade deteriorated from January-March as a result of a 1.9% fall in agricultural input prices as compared to a year earlier. The terms of trade ratio was 93.9% during the period.
Within input prices, prices of current expenses decreased 2.6% and prices of agricultural investments rose 2.9%.
Fuel prices experience the biggest drop, decreasing by 15%. Artificial fertilizer prices were up 5.4% as compared to a year earlier.
