Hungary PM could meet Barroso when in Brussels

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán could meet with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso during a conference in April, Commission spokesman Olivier Bailly said at a scheduled press conference on Thursday.
There has been no official confirmation of such a meeting, he added.
The Commission's stand regarding the talks is clear and has not changed, Bailly said. He denied suggestions that the European Commission is playing for time, noting that the Commission has launched accelerated infringement procedures.
"We are not the one delaying any process... we work as fast as we can", the spokesman said.
Hungary is waiting for an evaluation by the European Commission of responses it sent regarding European Union infringement procedures launched against controversial legislation.
Bailly did not give a timeframe for the Commission's responses, saying these could be completed "at any college meeting between now and ..the course of May".
The Commission decided early in March to continue accelerated infringement procedures on the independence of the country's data protection supervisor and measures affecting the judiciary, and to ask for additional information on the central bank's independence.
