EU

The Hungarian government is urging member states of the European Union to make a concerted effort to crack down on tax evasion, the National Economy Ministry said today, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.

The ministry’s state secretary for EU funding Balázs Rákossy said at a meeting of tax office heads from all 28 EU members in Budapest today, that EU member states must learn from each other and work together to end tax evasion.

Citing a study by the European Commission, Rákossy added that EU member states lost approximately €170 bln in VAT revenue due to tax evasion in 2013.
