EU imposes stricter ban on poultry import from Poland

The H5N1 bird flu virus has been found at a new farm in Poland some 2km from a site where it was discovered on Saturday.
The EU and Ukraine are tightening the ban on poultry import from Poland, for both live birds and meat. The ban now applies to 10 districts where there is a real threat of the disease to spread. Russia and Hong Kong have completely banned poultry import from Poland. According to EU vets the malicious H5N1 virus must be spreading all over Poland, as the new focus is 60 kilometers away from the previous one. On 1 December the first two focuses of the virus were detected in Uniejewo and Mysliborzyce, central Poland. On Saturday the virus was found on a hen farm in the village of Karniszyn, 60 kilometers away from the previous focuses. (polskieradio)
