EU calls for reduction in cost of text messaging

EU

President Dániel Pataki of Hungary's National Communications Authority (NHH) announced that an as yet unofficial new EU telecommunications plan would reduce the amount Hungarian mobile-phone subscribers pay to send a text messages within the EU.

The drop would entail a cut to Ft 30- Ft 32 from the current price of Ft 86.

Pataki, who also heads the European Regulators Group, said he supports the leaked version of the EU plan, which incorporates previous ERG proposals.

The ERG has further plans to decrease roaming prices in Europe by 2013.

European Commissioner for Information Society and Media Viviane Reding intends to present the plan for adoption in the next few weeks. The plans are said to include proposals to maintain current calling fees and to cut the cost of internet traffic. (MTI – Econews)
