EC steps up energy efficiency, sulphur emissions infringement procedures against Hungary
The European Commission (EC) today announced it started infringement procedures against Hungary for failing to conform to EU rules on energy efficiency and on sulphur emissions from ships to the next level.
The EC formally requested that Hungary fully transpose the EU's Energy Efficiency Directive into national law. The directive involves using policy measures to improve energy efficiency.
The EC also asked Hungary to enact EU rules on sulphur emissions from ships. Hungary had until June to comply with both measures.
The EC made the requests in the form of "reasoned opinions", the second stage in EU infringement procedures.
