Czechs getting richer
Purchasing power in the Czech Republic grew 5% closer to the EU average last year, reaching 79%.
The country has the highest purchasing power of the four regional Visegrád countries: Hungary (66%), Slovakia (63%) and Poland (53%). In 2004, the Czech Republic's purchasing power reached 72% of the EU average. Luxembourg topped EU statistical office Eurostat's list at 280% of the EU average, followed by Austria (129%). In related news, the number of dollar millionaires in the Czech Republic grew by 12.6% to 14,760 in 2006, according to financial groups Merrill Lynch and Capgemini. (cbw.cz)
