Contest of ideas lauched for Romanian rural development

A national contest of ideas for the development of Romanian villages was launched on Thursday by the representative office of the European Commission to Romania.
The contest titled "Discover Your Europe" is meant for farmers, rural elites and investors, who are invited to create projects by which they could turn to account the economic potential or traditions of various villages that would ensure a prosperous life for all members of the community. To finance the projects they will allocate money out of the €13 billion that Romania will receive from the EU over 2007-2013 for the development of agriculture.
"This is an important initiative as it tells the villagers that they are not forgotten. We must tell them that they have the role of conserving these traditions, which help maintain the diversity in the European Union," said Donato Chiarini, representative of the European Commission in Romania. The best projects will be broadcast on public television in September. (english.people.com.cn)
