“Concrete” offer on Dunaferr made to Putin

History

Hungary’s government made an offer to the Russians for steelmaker ISD Dunaferr during a recent state visit to Moscow, local daily Dunaújváros Hírlap is reporting on its website today. Gábor Cserna, the mayor of Dunaújváros, where the steelmaker is based, told the paper that the offer was “concrete” and appeared to satisfy Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Government officials earlier confirmed ISD Dunaferr had been discussed during the visit to Moscow.

National Economy Ministry deputy state secretary Péter Benő Banai said on Wednesday that talks between the government and Russian state-owned Vnesheconombank, ISD Dunaferr’s owner, could continue in February.

Cserna promised to make an announcement on the matter after the talks in February.
