Election 2014: Left-wing deal coming; Fidesz would shuffle cabinet
The political left is hoping to finalize the terms of their cooperation for the upcoming general elections by Tuesday, news portal Index.hu reported. The sides have agreed that the first places of the party list will be occupied by a delegate from each of the organizations, thus MSzP chairman Attila Mesterházy will lead, followed by E2014’s Gordon Bajnai and then a candidate from DK, who may or may not be former prime minister Ferenc Gyurcsány.
The sides are reportedly on the fence about Gyurcsány, who still has a loyal following but is essentially reviled by a large part of the public.
Fidesz win means cabinet reshuffle
If Fidesz wins the upcoming general elections, the members of the cabinet will largely consist of familiar faces but in revised positions, political daily Népszabadaság has reported.
According to the ’paper, current Justice Minister Tibor Navracsics would replace János Martonyi as foreign minister, but there is also a chance he would be Hungary’s next member of the European Commission. The Defense Ministry would be led by the relatively unknown Roland Mengyi, and current Fidesz parliamentary caucus leader Antal Rogán would serve as development minister.
Economy Minister Mihály Varga, Interior Minister Sándor Pintér and Justice Ministry State Secretary Zoltán Balog are expected to continue in their current positions.
