EC to take decision on Hungary infringement answers

EU

The European Commission will take a decision on Wednesday on the Hungarian government's answers regarding three infringement procedures, EC Vice-President in charge of Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship Viviane Reding said at a press conference in Brussels on Monday.

"On Wednesday, the commission is going to take a decision on what to do with the answers of the Hungarian government," Reding said. "[The Commissioners] will decide on a possible continuation, or not, of the infringement cases," she added.

The Commission launched the accelerated infringement procedures against Hungary in mid-January on concerns over the country's new Central Bank Act, the mandatory retirement age for judges and the data protection authority. Hungary's government sent a response to the Commission addressing the issues on the deadline for replying, on February 17.
