EC excludes Magyar Gáz Tranzit as interconnector operator

History

The European Commission has excluded a state-owned Hungarian company from operating an interconnector between the gas networks of Hungary and Slovakia, Hungarian daily Népszabadság said on Friday, citing an EC resolution it obtained.

Magyar Gáz Tranzit, a company owned by the state-owned Hungarian Electricity Works (MVM) and the Hungarian Development Bank (MFB), was to have operated the interconnector. According to the document, the Commission said a party completely independent of the ownership of MVM and MFB must operate the interconnector. It recommended that FGSz, a unit of oil and gas company MOL, operate the interconnector. The €160 million interconnector is expected to be completed in 2015.
