Russia: Investment forum in Sochi attracts 10,000 businessmen

Parliament

The 6th International Investment Forum, which opens Thursday in Russia’s Black Sea resort city of Sochi, has attracted about 10,000 Russian and foreign businessmen, the organizers said.

The event, previously known as the Kuban economic forum, is targeting future investment in the development of infrastructure in Sochi until 2020 and construction of sports facilities in the city in preparation for 2014 Winter Olympics.

Sochi won a bid to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in early July after a close race with South Korea’s Pyeongchang and Austria’s Salzburg. Last year, the forum resulted in business deals worth $5 billion. That record is expected to be beaten this year.

In addition, the participants will discuss investment opportunities in Russia’s Far East, particularly in Vladivostok, which could host a summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation organization (APEC) in 2012. (rian.ru)
