Hungary & Russia sign agriculture cooperation agreement

Hungarian Agriculture Minister József Gráf on Monday signed a framework agreement on cooperation in the farming and food sectors with his Russian counterpart Aleksey Gordeyev in the Black Sea resort of Sochi. The five-year agreement will be automatically extended by five years if both parties agree, Gráf said. The agreement is expected to revive the former close cooperation between Hungary and Russia, he added. About 40% of Hungary's farm products have no secure market, but Russia could absorb as much as 15% of the country's total farm sector output, Gráf said. Concrete plans have been signed between Hungarian and Russian partners in three areas, Gráf said. Hungary also plans to set up a logistics hub near Moscow in order to supply fresh vegetables, fruit, meat and wine to the Russian capital. Hungary also aims to export more know-how and technology to Russia's farmers. (Econews, Magyar Hírlap)
