Hungary: Politicians agree on need for pension reform

Ft 500 billion ($2,8 billion) must be spent from the state budget to support the state pension fund this year.
This fact points out that there is a need for change both on short and long term, Minister in charge of the PM’s Office Péter Kiss said at a conference about the pension reform yesterday. About the need of change there is a consensus among the experts of the governing and the opposition parties, he added. Changes in the regulation of early retirement will be turned in to the Parliament before the end of this year. According to the proposal, the age limit for early retirement would be 60 years for men and 59 years for women. The most important common points of the different opinions were the increase of the age limit for retirement and the increase of the activity rate. (Gazdasági Rádió, Magyar HÃrlap)
